Experimental pulmonary embolism by platelet agglutinates in dogs.

چکیده
It is probable that small fibrin thrombi are constantly being formed in the venous system and become impacted in the lungs. The lungs of dogs are able to lyse several hundred millilitres of fresh blood clot injected into the venous system over a period of months and the animals' pulmonary arterial pressure remains normal (Marshall and Allison, 1962). Small emboli may, however, be composed of the formed elements of the blood such as platelets and leucocytes, and these emboli may be less susceptible to lysis and more able to produce a cumulative effect resulting in pulmonary hypertension. The present study was made to investigate the immediate physiological effect and the ultimate pathological effect of repeated pulmonary embolism by platelet agglutinates in dogs.

Platelet-mediated pulmonary hypertension and hypoxia during pulmonary microembolism: reduction by platelet inhibition.
The literature indicates that vasoactive substances released from platelets contribute to the pulmonary pressor response and hypoxemia during pulmonary microembolism. Hence, removal of the platelets or inhibition of their function should reduce these effects. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to investigate the pulmonary effects of experimental embolism with glass beads in dogs rendered...
متن کاملEfficacy of Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Activated By Thromboplastin-D on the Repair and Regeneration of Wounds in Dogs
Objective- To evaluate the effects of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on wound healing in dogs. Design- Experimental in-vivo study. Animals- 5 mix-breed male adult dogs. Procedures- Under general anesthesia, six 2 × 2-cm, full-thickness skin wounds were created on the back of dogs symmetrically. In each dog, three right side wounds were treated topically with 1.5 ml PRP jelly, whereas lef...
متن کاملPulmonary Embolism with Abdominal Pain and ST Elevation: A Case Report
Pulmonary embolism is considered as a great masquerader due to its frequent nonspecific signs and symptoms. Typically pulmonary embolism is under-diagnosed or over-diagnosed. In this study a patient with pulmonary embolism is reported in which the patient exhibited two unusual manifestations namely; right upper quadrant abdominal pain and ST-T elevation in anterior precordial leads. Due to the ...
متن کاملPeriodontal Pockets as a Potential Source of Infection: a Case of Possible Odontogenic Septic Pulmonary Embolism
Although dental foci can be sources of bacteremia and bacterial endocarditis, hematogenous spread of infection presented with septic pulmonary embolism apparently is rare. The occurrence of septic pulmonary embolism in patients with periodontal disease without suppurative thrombophlebitis of the great vessels of the neck is well documented but to our knowledge, there is no report on septic pulm...
متن کاملComparison of Image Quality of Low Voltage 64-slice Multidetector CT Angiography with the Standard Condition in Patients Suspected of Pulmonary Embolism
Introduction: Reduction of peak kilovoltage (kV) setting has been a useful approach to d creating radiation dose; however, it may have varied effects on noise and the accuracy of diagnosis. Thus, we compared image quality between low (80 kV) and standard kilovoltage (100 kV) protocols. Material and Methods: This triple blind non-randomized parallel quasi-experimental study was conducted on 140 ...
